Great read. I fear sports are in a bad cycle of "starting something new" for mere entertainment. It is testing the true nature of what sports always was and the loyalty of real sports fans.
Totally agree. These new formats are front-loaded with hype and capital, but they tend to hit diminishing returns pretty quickly. The cost of keeping attention keeps rising, but the revenue rarely scales at the same pace. What we’re seeing is a wave of VCs diving into sport with big money and bold visions, but without a real understanding of the space. They’re backing ideas led by founders with limited business experience or very little time actually spent in the game. The launches are loud, but the substance often isn’t there. Real fans can feel the difference.
